Job Summary

We are seeking applications for a Research Associate to work on an exciting new project that aims to develop CAAR-iNKT cell immunotherapy for the autoimmune disease anti-phospholipid syndrome. This work is funded by Versus Arthritis and ConnectImmune. The work will take place in the Immunotherapy laboratory in the Centre for Haematology under the joint supervision of Professor Anastasios Karadimitris, Dr Charis Pericleous and Dr Deepa Arachchillage, who together provide cutting edge expertise in iNKT cell based immunotherapeutics, biology and clinical research and treatment of anti-phospholipid syndrome.

The iNKT cell programme of research focuses on the biology and therapeutic applications of iNKT cell cells against cancer, infectious and autoimmune diseases and currently involves five research staff.

Duties and responsibilities

You will help develop several in vitro facets of the project that will provide proof-of-principle of the proposed therapeutic approach as the basis for further pre-clinical development and funding. You will have responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day co-ordination, running and maintenance of the projects. This will include conducting scientific work and data analyses, as well as preparing data for publication and grant writing.

You must be organised, highly self-motivated and have excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills. You will need to manage your time and performance, must be strongly proactive, knowledgeable and able to solve complex problems.

Essential requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, reliable and well organised Research Associate who shares our excitement about the research we do. You should possess a PhD in Immunology or an equivalent subject such as Biochemistry. You should have experience with protein biochemistry, cellular immunology assays and basics of molecular biology such as molecular cloning, qPCR and Western Blot.

The ability to conduct a concise review of recent literature and the ability to develop and apply new concepts is essential. In addition, you will have excellent communication skills, the ability to solve problems, and the ability to work both on your own initiative and as a member of a team.

Further Information

This is a full time, fixed term post until 31 August 2023. You will be based at the Hammersmith Campus (East Acton).

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £36,694 - £39,888 per annum.
