We remain steadfast in our core commitment to accelerating the growth of far-reaching and market-leading programmes across performance, participation, and community outreach, whilst fostering a culture that safeguards academic excellence. We are guided by the belief that an investment in the Wider Student Experience is ultimately an investment in the quality of graduates that the University produces; motivated by the opportunity to engage and inspire the next generation of talent. In doing so, we feel confident that we are making a positive contribution to the development of rounded, ethical, global citizens.

The Role

Within the Student Enrichment Directorate there are two principal Leadership initiatives:

  • The Laidlaw Research & Leadership Programme

This post is partially funded by the Laidlaw Foundation.

The Leadership Framework is a leadership development programme which aims to support the student leader in their leadership role while at university. The programme focusses on key leadership development skills which can be put into practice and subsequently reflected on for their future professional careers.

The Laidlaw Research & Leadership Programme aims to develop a new generation of leaders who are skilled researchers, embrace data-based decision-making, and believe it to be a moral imperative to lead with integrity. It invests in talented and motivated undergraduate students giving them the knowledge, skills, and experience to become global citizens and ethical future leaders.

The Leadership Framework delivers a large proportion of the programme through in person events in collaboration with both external and internal partners. The post holder will have responsibility for Support the coordination of the Leadership Framework events, hosting and supporting online and in-person events and workshops, assisting in the recruitment of attendees to events, managing communication to student societies and keeping accurate up-to date information on attendees.

The post holder will design, create and post engaging social media, publicity and marketing content material to be accessed by the student community and partners. They will gain an understanding of international social media platforms and accessibility, and monitor engagement through data analysis.

As the Laidlaw Research and Leadership in Action programme is externally funded the post holder will be responsible for supporting the recruitment, development and engagement of Laidlaw scholars and report on their achievements. They will be supporting Stakeholder Management, by engaging with various student groups or individuals to ensure the recruitment of students to the programmes and events. They will prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations to various student groups, attend meetings ! and inter act with Colleges, Student Union and various student groups to market and recruit students. They will be the main point of contact for the Durham Laidlaw Scholars Organisation student exec to organise and deliver diverse engagement activities to scholars and applicants.
