This new full-time post is available from 1st June 2022 on a fixed term basis until 31st December 2023.  

Summary of the role

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Prof. Gallego-Sala and Prof Charman on the NERC funded project “ICAAP: Increased Carbon Accumulation in Arctic Peatlands” project to further strengthen the on-going work addressing the key question: will Arctic peatland become a carbon source or sink in the future? And more generally, in understanding interactions between climate and high-latitude peatland carbon dynamics. This a NERC funded post.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to achieve project objectives, present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information orally, in writing and electronically, and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies. They will also make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (in soil science, ecology, peatland science, carbon cycle science), be near completion, or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. They will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline to work within the project and of research methods and techniques (carbon analysis, dating of sediments, etc.), as well as of statistical analysis to work within established research programmes. Applicants will have knowledge and skills relevant to at least two of the following: carbon cycle, terrestrial arctic/polar science, paleo-environmental science. Some understanding of remote sensing and/or modelling would be helpful.
