Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) is a modern university, with a proud 130-year history and heritage of transforming our students’ lives. We are now seeking to appoint the Head of the School for Missenden Abbey. Missenden Abbey was founded in 1133 and is a dedicated conference and events venue set in ten acres of beautiful grounds in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. This unique part of the Buckinghamshire New University estate is also used as a training facility and currently hosts BNU-accredited postgraduate and professional short courses. The University has ambitious plans to relaunch Missenden Abbey as a boutique, country hotel providing opportunities for our students to gain valuable work experience on new international hotel management and associated programmes.

The Head of School will establish and develop our brand-new Hotel School. Working closely with the management team at Missenden Abbey, they will ensure the highest standards of academic leadership in the School, creating exciting, cutting-edge programmes in association with industry, and ensuring unparalleled work experience opportunities in conjunction with the Abbey. They will grow the school both in terms of staff and student numbers, building critical mass, and establishing a thriving academic culture, in which the highest standards of education, research, enterprise and professional practice can flourish.

This is an exciting time to join Missenden Abbey and the wider University. The postholder will have an exceptional opportunity to develop and lead the creation of an internationally excellent hotel school. This is a unique opportunity to drive and influence the provision of hospitality education in the region, the country, and internationally 

You will be an established and ambitious academic leader with experience of managing and developing a Hotel School’s  academic portfolio as appropriate, ensuring its contribution to the University’s growth in student numbers.You will bring the skills and experience to deliver the School’s strategic business plan and key performance indicators in line with the University’s strategy. Building on the quality and successes already achieved by Missenden Abbey, you will create and build an industry led Hotel School and offer outstanding leadership to deliver high levels of performance and an outstanding student experience.
