Purpose of role
The Deputy Director of The Library provides strategic and day-to-day functional management of library services, including learning technology, by managing all aspects of its operations aligned with the UNNC Campus Development Plan. The role holder is required to coordinate and work closely with academic & non-academic bodies internally and externally to provide professional services to learning, teaching and research, enabling creative programmes to meet challenges in the global environment, especially in China.
Qualification
Essential
- Master’s degree in any discipline;
- Ideally a minimum of 5-years’ experience in library and learning resources management.
- Experience in leading a large department;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to solve problems effectively;
- Fluency in Chinese and English, both written and spoken;
- Significant understanding of digital technologies for teaching, learning and research;
- Experience of library services and learning resources;
- Effective management skills.
- Leadership experience in library and learning resources;
Desirable
- Experience in managing projects;
- Experience in digital learning and digital research.
- Experience of working in higher education institutions.
Main responsibilities
1. Strategic planning
- Lead on the creative use of digital technologies to support teaching, learning & research, achieving positive impact;
- Define and deliver high quality standards across the library’s service, including against UNNC’s KPIs and measures such as the National Student Survey, such that the service is recognised as a positive contributor to UNNC’s success;
- Assist the Director of The Library to develop a strategic transformation plan to ensure that the services provided are of the highest standard in the higher education industry, including the preparation of change initiatives and papers to governance committees;
- Participate in leadership team planning, high-level decision making for the entire department.
2. Management
- Develop an annual work plan by working with team leaders to ensure the smooth running of the daily services;
- Oversee The Library daily operations to optimise the standards of the library services;
- Use qualitative and quantitative measures to produce management information to monitor and evaluate library services;
- Monitor staff performance;
- In partnership with the Director of The Library, to build and foster a success oriented and accountable working environment.
3. Engagement internal and external
- Build effective relations with teaching, learning and research bodies;
- Develop and maintain professional engagement activity and events with end users;
- Engage and communicate with stakeholders to maintain effective routes for receiving feedback from schools and other users, acting upon this feedback to continuously enhance the quality and impact of The Library;
- Build and develop professional relationship with external bodies within/out of library industry.
4. Professional development
- Develop team professional development plan to maintain library staff in high professional level;
- Continuously improve the department’s professional capabilities;
- Maintain personal professional capabilities.
- Participate in training and staff development events as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
- Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
