POSITION DESCRIPTION

(Effective on January 1, 2023) 

Position Summary

KIMEP University College of Social Sciences, Department of Economics, invites applications for one faculty position (Assistant/Associate/ Full Professor rank) in Economics.

KIMEP University offers its faculty members one-year contracts, renewable by mutual agreement. The starting date for this position is 5 January or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. The department offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. While we are inviting applications from all fields of economics, we have a particular teaching need in monetary economics.

We are looking for a talented teacher and innovative scholar who is actively engaged in research, enthusiastic about teaching bachelor, master and PhD students. We are looking for a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice of the subject.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Economics or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university. Applicants for the position should ideally have at least 3-5 years of teaching experiences in reputable universities, and extensive professional experiences in the field of major areas. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with remote or online course design and teaching is strongly desired.

The College of Social Sciences

The College of Social Science has a faculty of 18 full-time and ten part-time faculty members and three dedicated administrative staff. The College includes the departments of Media and Communications, Public Administration, International Relations and Economics.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after ­tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

Limited on campus housing is available to rent or help in finding off campus housing In addition to salary, a benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and subsidy for relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.

The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% Personal Income tax in general) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan.
