We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our School of Education which has a long and proud history in teacher education, a reputation for outstanding graduates and Early Career Teachers, and an enviable network of committed partner schools and other key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for the School’s ITE portfolio which includes Postgraduate Secondary and Primary Programmes, as well as a BA (Hons) Primary Education Programme.

The School of Education at LJMU, is renowned for the quality and strength of its undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, along with a growing reputation for international partnerships and collaborative research. Student numbers on QTS programmes total around 600. Student experience is at the heart of everything we do. The quality of our ITE Programmes and the development of socially engaged teachers - delivered through a team of committed and forward-thinking academic teams, is recognised by Ofsted and in the wider community. The successful candidate will have the capability to build on - and strengthen, the foundations and achievements of our excellent Head of ITE who is moving to a specialist role in the school, while also having the vision and ambition to respond to the future challenges and opportunities of this vital role.

As a key member of the school’s leadership team, this senior level post will require high-level strategic understanding of the external and internal ITE environment and proven experience in the sector to respond to the intensive and particular demands this brings. A strong and nuanced understanding of the UK teacher education landscape and complex policy and funding demands - including the requirements of recruitment to ITE programmes, internal and external audits and action plans, the current Ofsted inspection framework and the DfE’s 2024 ITT curriculum and regulatory expectations is essential.

You will be joining our vibrant School and Faculty at a pivotal moment of growth and opportunities in what is a particularly challenging time in the ITE sector. We are seeking an outstanding individual who can deliver excellent student experience and outcomes, provide exceptional strategic leadership, planning, operational management, retention priorities and partnership development the role needs. The Head of ITE will be joining a passionate and committed community of academics and professional support staff which makes the School of Education at LJMU a special place to work and thrive.
