The U Start project is a collaborative project with Lancaster University to assist students, staff (both academic and non-academic) and local graduates from the University of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University to start up their own businesses through pre- and post- start-up support. This project sits within the Centre for SME and Enterprise Development.

The Research Associate will support and manage the summative research evaluation of the project as required by the funding body. Additionally, together with researchers in the Centre for SME and Enterprise Development, this post will undertake formative research to input into the delivery and underpinning pedagogies and impact of the U Start project.

The successful applicant will work independently to undertake the design, collection, analysis and management of data. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for presenting the research data to a range of stakeholders. Candidates will have a good undergraduate degree and a masters degree or higher postgraduate qualification in a related area (or equivalent experiential learning) as well as significant experience or expertise in research methods. Experience conducting research in a Higher Education environment, with significant expertise in research methods and the ability to conduct qualitative interviews and analyse qualitative data is vital to this role.

The successful applicant will also be expected to play an active part in the development of the applied research agenda within the Centre for SME and Enterprise Development and therefore be a great team player, have a high level of self-motivation and confidence, keen and comfortable to engage with a range of interested stakeholders of all levels.
