Main duties and responsibilities
We are seeking to recruit a motivated and resourceful individual to play an important support role in our Optometry Department.
You will work within a small team of professional colleagues, both technical and academic, and will make a significant contribution to supporting practical teaching sessions within the Department. You will be providing technical support for Optometry teaching and clinics, ensuring the laboratories and clinics are fully prepared, with the necessary equipment available & fully operational. You will have an important role to play in maintaining the operation of equipment as well as ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
Skill and experience required
You must be both adaptable and versatile as you will continually meet new challenges and demands. Motivated and a professional attitude are likewise essential as you will work not only with your immediate colleagues, but also with Departmental academic staff and with students. The ability to work independently and to use initiative is also important and you will be expected to exercise your own judgement and make responsible decisions from time-to-time.
Practical experience in Optometry or in a related discipline, is required and it would be advantageous to have gained this experience within a higher-education framework. You will also have a good level of familiarity with instrumentation for optical measurement. As the post is based within a complex laboratory environment, an awareness of basic Health and Safety legislation would be beneficial but relevant training will be provided.
