Doing Things Differently.

Whether you are at the start of your academic career or ready for a new challenge, NTU is a fantastic place to transform lives, challenge the status quo and thrive. With 38,000 students and 4,400 staff across 5 sites, NTU is one of the largest and most influential universities in the country.

In the latest Research Excellence Framework 2021, 83% of NTU’s research outputs and 86% of our research impact were assessed to be either world-leading or internationally excellent.

As a university, we are proud to be recognised as a research-inclusive institution, engaging with local people, communities and partners to define our priorities and guide our outputs. We empower our students and colleagues to push boundaries and find solutions to the challenges that really matter, ensuring equality of opportunity for all.

We're inviting applications for a one-year part-time (0.6FTE) Research Fellow position to investigate the techno-economic potential of a specific mineralization- based Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology.

CCUS is regarded as one of the most promising technologies in deep decarbonization for sustainable foundation industries. An innovative mineralization based CCUS technology is proposed to significantly reduce the carbon capture costs. The revenue from the sale of by-products in the whole process has great potential to enable this pathway leading to profit rather than cost.

Completed supply chain investigation and characterization of raw materials will be conducted. A full-scale process simulation with operational data provided by industrial partners will be performed using professional software (such as Aspen+). The environmental and commercial benefit will be further validated by Life Cycle and Techno-Economic Analysis.

This position is funded through the University Research Springboard Fund (Sustainable Futures Theme). The research fellow will be working in the Department of Engineering at NTU and with several academic and industrial partners.

A successful applicant will have a research background in mechanical/chemical engineering. Experience in industrial decarbonization, carbon capture, process simulation, LCA and/or TEA is desirable. A master’s degree or equivalent in engineering, or relevant discipline is required. Having a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and publication record are considered advantageous but not essential.

Interview Date:  25 August 2022
