The Faculty of Creative Industry, Architecture and Engineering is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, well-organised and ambitious applicant to the role of Associate Lecturer in Prosthetics and Special Effects Design.
We are looking to appoint an outstanding candidate with HE experience in teaching a range of practical prosthetics, anatomy and creature design processes including maquette construction, sculpting, application design and drawing skills.
Subject knowledge within the broad fields of film, TV and performance, as well as the creative industries is also desirable. The successful applicant will teach across modules in Professional Application, Character Design, Deviant Narratives, Extending the Body, The SFX Morgue and Horror, Film & Media as well as teach across all levels of our successful undergraduate degree programmes.
The successful applicant will have relevant industry experience in model making, prosthetics or miniature construction, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to technical and other problems. The ability to lesson plan for seminars, deliver lectures and devise technical workshop delivery within the specialism of prosthetics & special effects in support of the academic aims of the courses is a must.
In this challenging educational environment, the ability to develop and update teaching material and have experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment is also a requirement. The successful applicant must also have experience of Design and Multimedia software (Adobe) and confidence in the use and development of social media platforms. They must be resourceful, self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, be a good team worker and be able to demonstrate an aptitude to problem solve requests while dealing tactfully with students. The ability to work under pressure is essential.
A good honours degree at Master’s level.
A good honours degree in fine art, make-up & hair or special effects.
Industry experience of image construction within film, TV, and performance, as well as the creative Industries.
Experience of HE teaching.
Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
An in-depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional areas within prosthetics and special effects. Knowledge of make-up and hair design is desirable.
An in-depth understanding of pedagogy.
The ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably have experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment.
An in-depth understanding of research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
Ability to develop research objectives, prepare proposals, carry out independent research, referee and contribute to peer assessment.
Ability to identify areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
Experience of engaging in pedagogic and practitioner research.
