At Northumbria, we embrace tomorrow. We pursue new thinking, forge new partnerships, create and exchange new knowledge, and find new solutions. Our inspirational academics, partners and students work together to tackle tomorrow’s challenges head on. We are ready for the future whatever it may hold. We are looking for future colleagues that share our ambition.

Working within the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, you will provide expertise in an area of Human Geography to further enhance research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities. This position will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, and participating in external activity to generate income and promote the subject.

The Department has particular strengths in four core research areas: Geographies of Development and Disasters; Social and Cultural Geographies; Cold and Palaeo Environments; and Geochemistry, Ecology, Climate and Conservation.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in development, economic and digital geographies and/or with research interests aligned with these themes:

  • Activism, volunteering and citizenship
  • Political ecologies and climate justice
  • Children and young people
  • Mobilities, migration and displacement

You must hold a first degree and be qualified to Doctoral level in a relevant discipline and have subject expertise appropriate to the theme, with specialist knowledge gained through research activity, professional practice or consultancy. Proven ability to deliver high-quality research-led teaching within an appropriate field and a strong publication profile are essential.
