A bit about the School of Health & Society…

Our School of Health & Society is one of the largest providers of nursing, midwifery and allied health professional education programmes in the UK, known for our track record of collaborating with a wide range of industry partners across health and social care to produce highly skilled graduates with real work experience. We are at an interesting time in the Higher Education sector, there is significant change in terms of oversight, student expectations and changing demographics and we are trying to do things differently so that we stay ahead of these changes. Our connection to industry is stronger than ever, particularly in terms of our real-world research, and we're proud to have more partnerships with SMEs than any other Greater Manchester University.

The Knowledge, Health and Place Research Group has been conducting high-impact action research into Global Health and International Development since 2014. Working in partnership with the charity ‘Knowledge for Change’, it has implemented several global health research and international development projects in low- and middle income countries (primarily Uganda) in areas such as improving the ethics and outcomes of professional volunteering and student elective placements; implementing sustainable interventions in areas such as cervical screening, antimicrobial resistance, rehabilitation, respectful maternity care, infection prevention and control, safer surgery and management of medical equipment; and making sustainable improvements to health and education systems more generally in both the UK and partner LMICs.

So what will the role involve?

This is an exciting opportunity to work on an interesting and high-impact portfolio of global health research and international development projects, in collaboration with the UK registered charity ‘Knowledge for Change’. Reporting to the Research Group lead and Project Manager, you will support the management and administration of all existing and new projects within the Knowledge, Health and Place Research Group.

In the first instance, this role will focus primarily on supporting the management and administration of 3 key programmes which focus on professional volunteering, ethical student placements and improving rehabilitation services for amputees. This will include supporting: arrangement of travel and placement logistics; recruitment of volunteers and students; creation of marketing and promotional materials; improving web and social media presence; writing of project and financial reports and liaising with key stakeholders.

Longer-term, this role will include supporting external grant applications, publication of research findings and horizon scanning for new areas for project implementation.

This role will involve international travel to various countries, and candidates must be willing and able to commit to undertaking periods of international travel of at least 2 weeks at a time. Dates and durations of travel will be negotiated with the Project Manager, inline with requirements and priorities at the time.

The contract is 1.0FTE, fixed term for 12 months in the first instance, with the probability of extension subject to successful application for external grant funding.
