The School of Policy and Global Affairs is an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions and brings together our renowned(Departments of Economics, Sociology and Criminology, International Politics and European Social Survey).
The Department of Economics is a dynamic centre for research and undergraduate and postgraduate education. The Department has core research strengths in microeconomic theory, experimental and behavioural economics, development economics, financial economics and econometrics, health economics and macroeconomics.
As Head of Department, you will be the academic and strategic lead with responsibility for managing, supporting, and mentoring staff. You will have a track record of first-rate research and be able to evidence success in leading and delivering excellence in teaching and learning. As Head of Department, you will be responsible for the oversight of the student experience and for developing and maintaining a portfolio of programmes with national and international appeal. You will have responsibility for enhancing the research performance and external profile of the department, sourcing income generating opportunities and leading research and external engagement activity, with a clear focus on a successful result in the next REF exercise.
As a member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team, you will support the Dean in driving the School’s financial and academic performance and contribute to the new President’s refresh of the institutional strategy.
The appointment will be for a 3-year fixed period. At the end of the 3-year HoD role, you would move to your substantive academic role.
