We are seeking to appoint one motivated and collaborative Research Associate for two years in the first instance (with the possibility of extension) to work on the Samsung-Imperial project “Quantum Simulation for New Quantum Materials”.
Many of the unsolved problems in materials science are directly related to the limitations of classical computers. The main task of the project is to use noisy-intermediate-scale hardware of quantum computers to tackle real-world problems in materials science. We are also interested in theory of solid-state qubits. The duties will include identifying concrete problems, and developing new algorithms for quantum simulations and hardware design for solid-state qubits. The appointee will have direct access to the state-of-the-art IBM Q quantum computer and other quantum hardware. In this interdisciplinary project, the appointee will work in a dedicated team of postdocs and PhD students led by Professor Myungshik Kim, Professor Peter Haynes and Professor Johannes Knolle.
Existing experience with quantum simulation / theory of quantum hardware is highly beneficial.
