Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 23rd September 2022

This role will be based in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, Parkinson Building, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner.   We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Do you have a passion for historic and contemporary art?  Have you experience of developing and delivering exhibitions?  Can you help us expose and promote our exhibitions to wider and more diverse audiences – both onsite and online?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 135 universities in the world.  We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities.  Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery offers innovative art exhibitions and displays treasures from the University Art Collection and the Leeds University Libraries Special Collections.  We support opportunities for researchers, students and the general public to understand and appreciate our shared historical legacy, through preserving, researching and promoting our collections.

You’ll lead the development and delivery of physical and digital exhibitions at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, featuring our collections as well as external loans, working with artists and guest curators where appropriate. Reporting to the University Art Curator, you’ll support wider University and Libraries strategic and cultural activities, and work with colleagues in the Special Collections & Galleries team to promote civic engagement with our collections. The role includes carrying out curatorial research; administering and managing exhibition loans (using KE Emu, working to SPECTRUM Standards); arranging artwork transportation and insurance; liaising with artists, lenders, guest curators, and other exhibition stakeholders; creating and editing exhibition interpretation (including producing exhibition catalogues), planning exhibition installations, and managing exhibition budgets, as well as supporting exhibition marketing, events, learning and community engagement and evaluation.  You’ll be the key point of contact for enquiries and advice on exhibitions and loans. You’ll lead the team to mount exhibitions and displays (NB this involves lifting, handling and working at height, and a degree of manual dexterity for the use of specialist tools and equipment).

What we offer in return
