We are recruiting a Data Scientist to join our People Analytics team in Cambridge which currently contains a data scientist and a data analyst.

About the role

You will work independently and as part of a team to provide robust analytics and insight to drive evidence-based decision-making in People and Culture, and our wider not-for-profit business.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Design and conduct analytics and data science projects and communicate findings to key stakeholders across the business
  • Create data pipelines by structuring, cleaning, validating, and joining data from multiple sources
  • Develop and operate automated data analytics and machine learning services
  • Provide specialist expertise, consultancy, and training within People and Culture and externally, commensurate with position of Data Scientist
  • Contribute ideas for new projects and applications of data science to People data
  • Build business relationships which contribute to the success of the People Analytics Team and develop opportunities for collaborative work with colleagues throughout the organisation, and beyond
  • Create and publish data visualisations, dashboards and reports, speak at conferences and otherwise help establish Cambridge University Press & Assessment as a leader in People Analytics

About you

To be successful in the role of Data Scientist we are seeking an individual with a relevant MSc degree or equivalent qualification, or evidence of knowledge and experience in this sector.

You will also have the following skills:

  • Advanced coding in Python, R, SQL or similar
  • Data wrangling complex data sets
  • Statistical analysis and / or machine learning and / or data engineering, drawing on a range of simple and advanced methods and techniques in line with best practice
  • Systematic investigation and experimentation
  • Translation of business problems and opportunities into data science problems and solutions
  • Communicating technical information clearly to specialists and non-specialists
  • Presenting the “story” of data in a meaningful and impactful way  
  • Experience with any of the following an advantage: Power BI, Workday, version control with Git, Hadoop, working with People data
