SODA

The School of Digital Arts is our response to, and an investment in, screen-based business and technologies. It is a digital skills powerhouse that hosts a diverse programme of degree apprenticeships, continuing professional development, work-based training, foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate courses and resources. It builds on the award-winning strengths of the Manchester School of Art, and brings together creative and craft disciplines, technical and scientific skills, industry partnerships and global research to train the next generation of talent, who will ensure that the UK continues to compete at an international level.

Opened in September of 2021, our new purpose-built £35m School works closely with key cultural and industry partners including: Red Productions, BBC, ITV and HOME to ensure that Greater Manchester has the skills base needed to support its continued growth as a centre of cultural capital and creative innovation. It is estimated that the School will generate an annual boost of £13 million for the local economy. SODA was awarded £14.9m of Government funding through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority - which was matched by the University.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Future Media Production

We are looking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Future Media Production. The ideal candidate should have experience of a creative approach to designing and delivering higher education curriculum at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in subject specific and interdisciplinary contexts. Offering a skill set that blends experience at the leading edge of digital media production technologies and techniques with knowledge of traditional video and emerging 2D, 3D and real-time media workflows. You will be part of a new course that aims to develop the visual storytellers of the future. From new production design techniques such as virtual production to strategic development of short form content for emerging content delivery channels you will communicate how new tools can be used to engage and enchant an audience.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Ability to design, produce and deliver video or animated content across a variety of digital format channels
  • Knowledge and experience of virtual production, ideally combining game engine, motion capture and camera workflows.

The applicant should also have an in-depth understanding of current industry trends within this field and be able to conduct research and deliver programmes that are grounded in the present but offer space to explore the future - leading students to investigate what it means to be a creative media practitioner at the convergence of storytelling, technology and innovation.
