We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant interested in studying mechanisms of ubiquitin-dependent degradation of membrane proteins in mammalian cells to join Professor Pedro Carvalho’s group based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford.

The Carvalho lab studies the mechanisms of protein quality control, by which damaged and undesired proteins are detected and eliminated from cells. We focus primarily on the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the largest membrane-bound organelle in cells with a central role in the biogenesis of most membrane and secreted proteins through which cells communicate with their environment. A major interest of the lab has been to understand how these ER functions are regulated by ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis, in particular through a pathway called ER-associated degradation

The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out a research project independently and contribute conceptually to the overall research programme. You should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry or structural biology. The post holder should be enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist possessing experience in protein biochemistry, with the ability to work to a high standard. You should also have first author publications in high-profile scientific journals. Previous laboratory experience, good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. Expertise in membrane protein expression and purification as well as experience in assays to study protein ubiquitination are strongly desired.

This is a fixed-term appointment available for 2 years in the first instance. If you are interested in this role, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, please apply online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

For informal queries about this post please contact Pedro Carvalho via email: pedro.carvalho@path.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Monday 31 October 2022. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
