The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world's largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 1,000 staff, operating from campuses throughout England and online. We were the first-ever independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers and in 2012 we gained university title.
What really sets us apart from other universities is the guiding principle that future lawyers and business leaders should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context, with plenty of practical interactive engagement. That is why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.
We are looking to recruit Tutors or Senior Tutors to join us on our exciting journey - ideally qualified solicitors or barristers who can demonstrate successful legal practice experience, or experienced law tutors who currently teach across the range of programmes we offer.
The University delivers an extensive portfolio of both postgraduate and undergraduate law programmes including the LPC, PGDL, BPC and LLB and we are looking for candidates that can demonstrate expertise in corresponding subject matters. You will enjoy being challenged (by students and course content) and be able to adapt to the different learning styles of students and methods of course delivery.
You will be eager to share your expertise and become involved in all aspects of enhancing the student experience. The role will also include marking, supporting students and dealing with queries.
We will be proceeding to shortlist and interview as applications are received. Interviews will be in campus or via zoom or Teams.
We offer an excellent range of competitive benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, private medical scheme, contributory pension scheme, life assurance, training and qualifications, and travel loans. As part of the tutor development programme, we will also support you to study for a recognised teaching qualification within your first 18 months of employment.
Please note, CVs will not be considered and only application forms are accepted for this role.
If you would like to arrange an informal discussion prior to application, please email the recruiting managers, Zoe King at Zoe.King@law.ac.uk, Rima Bhattacharya at Rima.Bhattacharya@law.ac.uk or Fiona Chrisp at Fiona.chrisp@law.ac.uk
No agencies please.
This role is subject to a DBS check.
What do we offer?
We offer an inclusive and supportive work environment and are committed to developing our staff through a variety of means including educational sponsorship, discounted course fees and a range of in-house training. We also offer a generous annual leave allowance.
Our approach
Equity and Inclusion is central to everything we do. We are actively committed to promoting and participating in good practice in the way we attract and retain staff. Aligned to this is the opportunity to join one of our three peer staff networks for Disabled staff, LGBTQ+ staff and staff from an underrepresented race, ethnicity and/or cultural heritage.
We celebrate difference and recognise the benefits that this brings to our inclusive culture, including age, disability, gender identity and expression, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and socio economic background. The University is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and wider society; we are striving to increase the representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds across all roles and at all levels. All appointments will be made on merit.
