Senior Programme Manager

Introduction

Interested in joining a dynamic team of professionals based in Twickenham, West London who are pivotal in ensuring the UK Government’s funding of applied research to solve health and social care challenges makes a real difference to the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. 

We are looking for a Senior Programme Manager to join our team at the NIHR to help deliver the Programme Grants for Applied Research and Programme Development Grants research funding programmes, and support delivery of the recently commissioned Blood and Transplant Research Units .

We are looking for someone who can:

• Take overall responsibility for the delivery of the PGfAR and PDG programme commissioning processes
• Support delivery and performance monitoring of the BTRUs, including attendance at independent oversight group meetings
• Working with senior leaders/directors to contribute to the strategic development of the PDG programme offering
• Lead on the PGfAR/PDG programmes charity engagement drive to jointly fund research
• Attend committee meetings in a supervisory capacity, providing advice to the committee when required
• Manage a portfolio of funded PGfAR and PDG projects
• Liaise regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including attending, organising and leading meetings, promoting and representing the PGfAR and PDG funding programmes at external meetings
• Contribute to the development of the Programme Managers, including the monitoring of the quality and timelines of the work of the Programme Managers within the team in line with agreed timeframes.

Essential competencies:

Degree in biomedical or health sciences or equivalent experience

Strong leadership style, and proven track record of research management

Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrable success in stakeholder management within and across multiple organisations

Ability to think strategically, interpreting complex information, putting information in context and having a clear view of the “big picture”

Excellent writing skills and meticulous attention to detail

Excellent planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, working to challenging targets and deadlines

 Desirable skills and abilities:

A PhD in a medical, scientific or technical discipline

Experience of working in a research management environment, preferably within a healthcare setting

Knowledge of the UK’s health and care research landscape

Up to £44,000 to £46,500 PA

Hours: 0900 to 1730 Mon to Fri
Location: Twickenham / Hybrid Remote
