Following our move to a new laboratory in 2013, we are able to provide state-of-the-art facilities in which innovative medical research, translation and collaboration can flourish.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the Group of Dr Phil Holliger. The Group are using synthetic biology tools to dissect the molecular basis of genetic information encoding and function (see e.g. Science (2012) 336, 341 / Nature (2015) 518, 427) and are trying to build RNA system capable of self-replication (Science (2011) 332, 209 / eLife (2018) 7:e35255 / bioRxiv 2022.08.23.504927)
Candidates must have a PhD degree in a biological subject or be due to complete within 6 months. You should have experience in recombinant DNA technology and a strong interest in in vitro evolution techniques and nucleic acid chemistry. Ideally, you will also have experience in next-generation sequencing techniques, aptamer and enzyme selection techniques. Practical experience in structural biology techniques specifically CryoEM will be considered a bonus.
The successful applicant will be awarded a 3-year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.
