East 15 Acting School offers an extraordinary and dynamic portfolio of courses that span many areas of training for actors, directors, producers, technical theatre specialists and students of theatre practice. One of a leading group of UK conservatoires; we are ranked 1st in the UK for Drama (Guardian University Guide 2022: Drama and Dance), have a distinguished international staff team, and are now one of the largest specialist drama schools in the UK.

Duties of the Role

We are looking to appoint a Theatre Manager, who will form part of a job share (17 hours a week) to oversee the theatre venue and manage the Box Office, Bar and Front of House. 

Duties include, but are not limited, to the following;

  • Act as Front of House Manager, Box Office and Bar Manager: recruiting and managing student staff members; ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for the general public attending productions / events; selling and distributing tickets; running post-show finance reports; maintaining stock and overseeing sales
  • Oversee the presentation and management of the theatre building
  • Liaise with Estates to ensure that there is adequate service provision for Clifftown productions and events
  • To work with the Head of School and Associate Directors to consider ways to utilise the theatre facility to grow income for the School.
  • Support the Marketing Officer by leading on the marketing for internal productions and the school’s social media campaign
  • Support the marketing of other East 15 events as appropriate
  • To help organize Summer Schools that take place on the Southend Campus
  • Creation of programmes for student productions 

Skills and qualifications required

The candidate should hold a degree in a relevant field or have similar experience of arts administration, with an understanding of the higher education sector.   They will need to demonstrate administrative experience in a challenging and varied role, with the ability to remain calm under pressure in a busy, customer-focused environment.  They will have strong IT skills, particularly with: data entry and records management; Microsoft Office Programmes; and Social Media. Ideally, though not a requirement, the candidate will have experience of box office and digital design Software.  It is desirable that they have some background in working at a theatre in a managerial role, with knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and experience of financial processing procedures. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service.
