Job description

Building on our recent success in the Research Excellence Framework this is an outstanding development opportunity for two talented individuals with the skills and commitment to drive an ambitious vision in applied health research and education relevant to our fields for the 21st century.  

What will you be doing?

You will lead sustainable, high quality, applied health and/or care research that benefits our local and global communities. You will be expected to be ambitious in capturing grant income and publishing high quality outputs, leading to a step change contribution to the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care and your academic field. You will foster interdisciplinary partnerships that increase the quality of your research and education and deliver impacts to benefit society.

Essential criteria

  1. Higher academic degree (PhD or medical equivalent) (All Roles)
  2. Clear upward trajectory of peer-review publications with sustainable track record consistent with world-leading or internationally excellent REF outputs, with originality, rigour, and significance in areas relevant to Faculty research themes. These should demonstrate growing international recognition of research excellence in their field (Senior Lecturer) or internationally recognised leadership in their field of research with new knowledge and innovation (Reader)
  3. Evidence of ability to secure research grant funding, demonstrated by previous experience and upward sustainable track record, plans, experience of funding schemes relevant to Faculty research themes, and demonstrable leadership in delivering publications/projects. Clear ability to obtain sufficient funding to lead a research group to deliver an innovative research programme (Senior Lecturer) or experience in obtaining funding and leading a research group to deliver an innovative research programme (Reader)
  4. Evidence of continued development in research methods in applied health and/or clinical research, and how these would contribute to improving and/or complement the Faculty’s research and education, with increasing expertise in specific areas (e.g. health services research, trials, mixed methods, co-design, big data analysis, implementation science, economics, statistics, patient and public involvement) (Senior Lecturer), and with international recognition of this (Reader)
  5. Experience of the planning and delivering high-quality evaluated education at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels with a strong focus on a high-quality student experience and success. Evidence of leadership in education or assessment initiatives. Evidence of supervising PhD students and strong progress (Senior Lecturer) and timely completion (Reader)

The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview. Scheduling of interview and presentations will be confirmed once shortlisting has taken place. Interviews are scheduled to be held on Monday 30th January 2023
