About the Role

The postholders will support a programme of community research within Tower Hamlets as part of the ActEarly research project. ActEarly is a 5-year UKPRP funded research programme (finishing in August 2024) which aims to co-produce, implement and evaluate multiple novel early life interventions to prevent disease and reduce inequalities. In the last 18 months of the project there are several planned research projects that will need input from community researchers working in Tower Hamlets. They will work with one Post-doctoral Research Associate as well as academics from QMUL and UCL on research projects based in Tower Hamlets.

About You

The posts are suited to individuals with experience of community research. Candidates who would like to advance their research skills are welcomed and will be supported to develop a career in research if desired. Applicants with experience of community research in London, particularly in Tower Hamlets, would be especially suited to this role. Applicants who can speak another language such as Bengali, Chinese, French, Spanish, Italian and Somali would be a huge asset to the project.

About the Institute

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into five separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements. The project will support the WIPH and FMD to develop a strategy to improve the health and wellbeing of our local population across east London and deliver on the commitment outlined in Queen Mary’s recently launched Civic University Agreement.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. They are part-time (approx. 28 hours per week although there is flexibility with hours), fixed-term appointments for 18 months, with an expected start date of February 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £33,619 - £35,411 (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
