Summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced lecturer in Football Development and Coaching to join our growing provision here at St Mary’s University.  The role will have a remit of enhancing our department’s focus on seeking to retain and grow our offer to students in the football context. The role will work closely with a global partner in Chelsea Football Club Foundation.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will be able to draw upon considerable experience and knowledge of the game to support the development of our programmes, research and knowledge exchange activities. This role may come with the opportunity of course leadership for the right candidate.

Job Details

This role is for a Lecturer- who will undertake activities primarily associated with teaching across our undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) football programmes. You will be expected to convene a range of modules, ensuring their quality against national and University benchmarks, and embed good practice in inclusivity and diversity within curriculum design and teaching practices. To enrich our practice and portfolio, the successful applicant will be able to contribute to teaching and learning in performance analysis and coach development plus two or more of the following areas: effective coaching and practice design, football development, football industry and business, talent identification and coaching football through games.

Developing our reach and impact is a priority area for us and so the successful candidate will be tasked with extending our current activity and reputation in this area via high quality teaching and learning and enhancing student experience. Previous experience of teaching in higher education is desirable but not essential (we provide support for staff new to HE to undertake a formal teaching qualification). You will be required to provide pastoral support for students and there will be opportunities to lead programme-related activities or represent the programme. The role may come with course leadership responsibilities which will include the remit of working closely with Chelsea Football Club Foundation. You will need to be able to work flexibly as part of a team, play a key role

in developing teaching and learning strategies and contribute to academic quality by pursuing best practice in teaching, research and knowledge exchange and demonstrate a commitment to developing your professional practice. You will be supported in your development towards these CPD objectives. Due to the nature of some of the work, you will need a current DBS.

Faculty

The post is located in the Department of Psychology and Pedagogic Science which presently houses programmes in Football Development and Coaching, Performance Analysis, Sport Coaching Science, Physical Education and Psychology.

The Faculty of Sport, Allied Health and Performance Sciences is an internationally recognised centre with established expertise and resources. At both undergraduate and postgraduate level, we are committed to offering vocationally relevant programmes of study with the highest academic standards.
