Business Development Manager

The role

The Moredun Group is seeking a full-time Business Development Manager to join the team in Moredun Research Institute.

Moredun Research Institute is an independent research organisation that conducts world class scientific research to improve livestock health and welfare through the prevention and control of infectious diseases of livestock. The successful candidate will join a team focused on the translation of the Institute’s science into commercial outputs for livestock health, including both diagnostics and vaccines.

The role will involve working with scientists in the fields of veterinary bacteriology, virology and parasitology to:

1. Identify and protect new and existing intellectual property (IP) on an on-going basis and via periodic audits
2. Develop and nurture commercial relations across the Animal Health and Aquaculture sectors
3. Co-construct collaborative projects with commercial partners, funders and other stakeholders to further support the development of the Institute’s IP into commercial outputs.
4. Support and deliver initiatives to develop licences, assignments and spin out companies
5. Formalise relations with external partners via contract negotiation, drafting and review

Experience required

• At least a BSc Degree in microbiology/ virology/ immunology or a related subject.
• Have a proven record of post-graduation work experience, with significant proportion of that experience in a commercial environment
• Experience of commercial contracts, Intellectual Property (IP) and biological product lifecycles
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of people with competing priorities
