The Department of Civil Engineering & Industrial Design at the University of Liverpool is embarking on an exciting period of growth of its academic staff base, and we are looking for staff to join us in delivering multidisciplinary world-class civil engineering research in the key areas of net zero, climate crisis, resilience, and future cities, whilst also providing innovative, research-led teaching input to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are looking to enhance both our vibrant environmental engineering research group and our Risk Institute with an appointment at Lecturer level in Environmental Engineering Risk and Uncertainty.
At Liverpool, we employ a broad definition of environmental engineering, believing it to be a discipline within civil engineering at the interface with ecology, geography, chemical engineering, population biology, and environmental science. Environmental engineers apply scientific knowledge and engineering principles to maintain and improve the environment to protect human health, preserve ecosystems and natural habitats, and enhance the quality of life for human societies. We are looking for someone who can work within this framework and develop methods and tools to manage the inherent risks and uncertainties that arise in complex environments and natural and constructed systems.
We are looking for a passionate researcher with ambitious future research plans who has an established track record of academic endeavour. This will include papers in internationally leading journals in their field and the potential, or demonstration of the ability, to attract significant funding from a range of sources. You should a PhD in Risk and Uncertainty.
Job applications are particularly welcome from women, ethnic minority and/or marginalised population candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in the School. Appointments will be made on merit only.
