The Kennedy Institute is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientific professional with proven writing skills to join the Institute as Scientific Writer. This interesting and varied role offers an opportunity to work with researchers, funders and collaborators, spanning basic biology to translational research, experimental medicine and clinical trials. Through close collaboration with the NDORMS Communications Team, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the Institute.
You will be responsible for managing the scientific output of the Institute, to increase our visibility and impact. Working closely with the Institute Director, you will be expected to become familiar with the Institute’s research portfolio and major stakeholders. Using your extensive background in science writing, you will advise and assist in preparing Institute reports, promotional material and grant applications. You will also assist the Institute faculty with the formulation, editing and submission of manuscripts, the preparation of grant applications, funders’ scientific reports and any other documentation required.
You will have an advanced knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology, with a particular understanding of immunology. Good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team are vital, as interaction with group leaders, research staff and outside parties is a key aspect of the role. You must be highly organised, proactive, pay close attention to detail and be comfortable and able to work to challenging and competing deadlines. You will have substantial experience of writing for peer-reviewed publications, as well as strong editorial experience.
