Job Summary
Translational Research in Precision Breast Surgery
We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow, who will be involved in a major research project in the theme of technological innovation for precision breast surgery directed by Mr Daniel Leff, while working towards a PhD degree. The research project will entail project design, experimental work in addition to data analysis and reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with an interest in research and they would be expected to register for a higher degree (PhD). You must be able to demonstrate some previous experience in research and must show evidence of ability to develop personal research projects.
Department of Surgery and Breast Unit
In 2022, Imperial College ranked number 7th globally in the QS World University Rankings and number 1st overall in the UK Research Excellence Framework. It currently has the highest research impact of all Russel Group Universities. Imperial College NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS trusts in England. In 2019-2020 it had a turnover of £1.3bn and treated 1.3M people. The Breast Unit which is located at Charing Cross Hospital is one of the busiest and most research active in the UK. It is served by 5 consultants covering specialist oncoplastic breast surgery including therapeutic mammoplasty, partial breast reconstruction (AICAP / LICAP) and implant based breast reconstruction. The unit hosts a National Training Interface Fellowship. Microsurgical reconstruction is offered in collaboration with the Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons, and a dedicated Oncoplastic MDT for the North-West London.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Requirements
The post holders will be required to fulfil clinical commitments within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. This will include 2 breast clinics per week and participation in the acute on-call rota.
