Background and Context
History at Hull is one of the top-performing academic units in the University, and sits within the top 20 History Departments in the United Kingdom. In REF 2021, we ranked 18th nationally, and were joint 1st overall for Research Impact. In the Guardian League Table, we came 12th for teaching quality and student experience. History is home to the Treatied Spaces Research Group, an international, inter-disciplinary and collaborative group that has attracted significant levels of research funding. History is the founding department of the Wilberforce Institute, and makes a significant contribution to its Research and Knowledge Exchange activities. The current post is funded in part by the award of a Wilberforce Fellowship to Dr Nicholas Evans. We are seeking an applicant with postdoctoral expertise in any discipline whose work complements that of the Treatied Spaces Research Group and the Wilberforce Institute: interdisciplinary Indigenous and environmental issues in a historic and contemporary context; modern and contemporary slavery; digital humanities; Indigenization of heritage sites and interpretation of UK cultural assets, environmental politics.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post
This post is a temporary substantive teaching role that will include offering two undergraduate modules. Trends and Treasures is concerned with material culture, heritage, and the representation and colonised peoples in museums, galleries and archives, while Insiders and Outsiders examined questions of belonging, and the place of minority and multi-ethnic communities within states. You will also support a small group of students working on a co-produced project that aligns with your own area of research, and contribute to a team-taught MA module on Memory and Meaning. There is wide scope within this teaching for you to shape materials, activities and assessments. You will also be supported in the development of your research career, particularly in the area of securing research funding, and developing impact. We particularly welcome enquiries from ECRs who are planning an application to competitive postdoctoral research fellowships (Leverhulme, British Academy)
