About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Medical Statistician with experience of Bayesian modelling to join the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) group within the Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU). The role involves working with UK MS Register data along with other large healthcare datasets to examine predictors of progression in MS. This post is funded for 1 year by the MS Society.
The successful candidate will design a Bayesian network within the UK MS Register to visualize and assess potential modifiable risk factors for MS progression. They will apply modern machine learning approaches that account for interactions between MS risk factors, using available data on demographic information, DMT use and linked clinical data supplied by participating sites along with UK MS Register data.
About You
Candidates must have a postgraduate or equivalent experience in statistics or a related quantitative field with specific experience in using Bayesian modelling techniques. Experience of using appropriate programming language and modelling tools such as AgenaRisk with large datasets is essential. The post would suit someone who is passionate about using cutting edge mathematical techniques to understand seeking to develop their reputation and independence in their subject.
About the Centre
The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis is at the forefront of international research into the prevention and control of neurological disease and cancer. The Preventive Neurology Unit has particularly active research programmes in multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and dementia. The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis also has major expertise in cancer screening, awareness and early diagnosis, and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology, and the post holder would have access to expertise within these areas to support their professional development.
