Visiting Lecturers in Politics and International Relations (Hourly Paid)

Rate of pay: Full duty £39.01 per hour, plus 17.66% accrued holiday per total value

The Politics and International Relations Subject Group at the University of Hertforshire are looking to employ a skilled, passionate and experiences Visiting Lecturer to support the teaching provision on the MA in International Relations. The successful candidate will have a broad teaching experience and able to teach on different modules in the field of political research, particularly require teaching coverage in the field of Conflict and Security Studies and Global Governance. Our Visiting Lecturers work as part of dynamic, collegiate and supportive team, whilst developing experiences in teaching, module development and assessments at postgraduate level. The candidate will benefit from a supportive, flexible environment and have to access to continuing professional development.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Undertaking teaching, assessments on Politics International Relations Modules at post graduate level, including acting as module leaver where appropriate
• Supervising student dissertations on the MA in International relations
• Providing academic support, pastoral care for a diverse group of post graduate students
• Employing a range of pedagogic methods appropriate to different teaching scenarios, seeking ways of improving performance and delivering, obtaining, analysing feedback from students and colleagues
• Support learning throughout the development of course materials and undertake necessary administrative activities
• Create a learning environment, promoting debate, foster critical thinking whilst being mindful and respectful of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and needs of students
• Use appropriate assessments and criteria to asses the progress of students and provide constructive feedback in a prompt and timely manner
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of Staff in the School and across the University as appropriate

Skills/Qualifications Required: 

• Undergraduate degree in Politics, International Relations or related discipline
• PhD in Politics, international relations or related Social Science discipline; candidates currently enrolled in a PhD programme will be considered
• Experience in delivering high-quality teaching in a developing exceptional learning practice to the benefits of students at UK Higher Education level
• Demonstrate ability to teach on BA Politics and International Relations and MA International Relations and the field of Peace building and Statebuilding and Security Studies at undergraduate level
• In depth knowledge in different fields of Political and International Relations allowing the successful candidate to teach range of modules across the discipline

We are seeking individuals with experience in teaching at post graduate level, dissertation supervision at UH and/or post graduate level and assessing student work at post graduate taught level. Experience in providing feedback, support and pastoral care to international students. A HEA Fellowship or willingness to achieve the former through engaging with the University CPAD scheme for the appropriate category within an agreed timeframe is desirable.
