This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced laboratory technician with a passion for biology and living systems to provide specialist technical support, expertise and guidance in the Central Saint Martins Grow Lab.
The Grow Lab is a Containment Level 1 biology laboratory focused on sterile work, microbiology and microscopy relating to art and design. It is equipped with safety and fume hoods, incubators, multiple microscopes, and workstations for data acquisition and analysis. The Grow Lab technical resource provides biology expertise and support to post-graduate masters and PhD students across Biodesign, Art & Science and Material Futures courses.
You will create and deliver workshops and provide technical support for the day-to-day operation of resources linked to the delivery of Grow Lab practices. You will be an integral part of the technical team, contributing your professional experience working with micro-organisms and plant tissue, synthetic biology, DNA, microbiology, microscopy, new media, imaging, electronics and sensors. You will also have the opportunity to develop new skills and experience across a wide range of technical workshops.
Your role will encompass communicating with stakeholders, acting as a lead point of contact for technical support, and ensuring access to up-to-date and accurate information for students, academics, fellow technicians and other university staff.

Your profile
We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, self-motivated and creative individual with an interest in contemporary questions of science in culture, who will relish the challenge of supporting a diverse range of talented and renowned academics.
You will be comfortable explaining complex information clearly, with an in-depth knowledge of microbiology, biology and technology, speculative design and new media. You will be enthusiastic about imparting knowledge to students and able to meet the evolving challenge of biodesign experimentation in a creative lab context.
You will have excellent applied experience suited to support safe practice in a Cat.1 biology lab, including imaging and hardware operations. It would be helpful to be proficient in some relevant creative, analysis, and presentation software (e.g. Adobe software, ImageJ, and/or equivalents).
