We are looking for a SharePoint developer to help us provide a dedicated SharePoint and M365 development capability within our software development team.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to join our talented team of software developers, working at the heart of one of the world’s leading universities. The team builds a wide portfolio of software for use across the University. While this role is focused on SharePoint development, the team you will join includes team members developing in back end and full-stack technologies like Python, Django, database, JavaScript, REST APIs, and so on.

This position is offered on a full-time basis with an open-ended contract. We can provide flexible working and/or reduced hours to support your childcare or other responsibilities.

The team is based in a large, modern office in central Edinburgh. We currently support hybrid working and you will have the option to work remotely for up to 4 days a week if you wish. We retain the right to make changes to our hybrid working policy in future. Successful candidates should live or plan to move within commuting distance of Edinburgh.

About The Role:

In this role, you will be helping deliver SharePoint and M365 platform development capabilities to the team. You will have complete focus on this platform, while benefiting from best practice software development tools, processes, principles, project methodology, and relationships which have been built up by the software development team over many years.

You will work closely with our SharePoint Solutions team, who have already built a portfolio of successful utilities and applications on the university’s Microsoft 365 platform.

This position requires existing experience in SharePoint software development, and you will be given support and training to further develop your skills.

In this development role, you will be expected to make recommendations and designs on solution architecture. You should be able to gather and analyse requirements (working with BAs or independently) and create software designs which best meet the needs of the University. You will be supported by senior developer(s) on potentially complex projects.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Skilled in the design, development, configuration, and implementation of SharePoint Online applications:
    • SharePoint Framework (SPFx)
    • Client Side Object Model (CSOM)
    • SharePoint REST service
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform:
    • Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI
  • Experience of React or a similar front-end framework
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels in both verbal and written communications

Experience in the following is not required but would be a bonus:

  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum project methodologies
  • Expertise in other Microsoft 365 development related technologies:
    • Microsoft 365
    • PowerShell
    • C#
    • .NET
