This is an exciting opportunity to join a world leading University in a key role. The Head of the Teaching Design and Support Group (TDSG) is a vital role in the delivery of the Engineering Science undergraduate programme at the University of Oxford, with principal responsibility for the delivery of laboratory classes, which are central to our undergraduate course.

TDSG consists of nine engineers from different branches of Engineering (including the appointee). They work closely with academic staff, technicians, and the student administration team to deliver laboratory teaching on the undergraduate programme, to engage with our outreach programmes, and to provide technical design advice and support to research groups across the Engineering Science Department.

You will oversee the work and development of this team, and will also be expected to deliver laboratory teaching in areas relevant to your expertise.  Over the next decade the department plans to move into new teaching buildings and undertake a major overhaul of the undergraduate programme. You will play a key role in this process both in terms of forming a strategic vision for laboratory teaching and then defining a roadmap for its implementation.

You will be Educated to degree level in Engineering or cognate subject. You will have previous experience of teaching at University level and have excellent managerial skills.

The University offers a comprehensive range of childcare services and has very generous maternity, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave schemes in operation. We offer an enhanced entitlement to 38 days’ annual leave per year (pro-rata for part-time staff), inclusive of bank holidays and fixed closure days. Additional long service leave is available after 5 years’ service and an additional scheme, enables staff to request to purchase up to ten additional days’ annual leave in each holiday year. Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing the 23rd  October 2023.
