Qualifications and Experience 

The successful candidate must possess at least: 

  • A Master’s degree from a recognized university, which should be in Educational Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Design or a closely-related field, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in the Teaching of Information Technology (IT)/Computer Science OR Mathematics;

and

  • Have submitted a research dissertation towards attainment of a relevant PhD, and be awaiting presentation and defense. 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Ideally, five (5) years’ teaching experience in Mathematics/IT/Computer Science in a higher education environment
  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Proficiency in the design and use of online teaching methods (e.g. Zoom)
  • Competency in online and distance education 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • A PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Mathematics, IT, Education or a closely related field
  • Ideally, at least three (3) years’ experience in supervision of practicum in Mathematics/IT/Computer Science at graduate level
  • Ideally, at least three (3) years’ graduate teaching experience
  • Competency in the use of software for analysis of quantitative data 

The following would be considered assets:

  • BSc in IT/Computer Science
  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in addressing special needs students in the area of Mathematics Education
  • Competency in the areas of Assessment and Evaluation and Research Methods in Education 

Only holders of a relevant PhD will be eligible for appointment at the Lecturer level. 

Special Responsibilities 

  • Teaching in any of the following programmes:
  • Bachelor of Education
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Education
  • Master’s in Education
  • Designing and developing courses in the Teaching of Mathematics and IT/Computer Science
  • Engaging in classroom supervision, supervising graduate research and conducting research aimed at improving the quality of Mathematics and IT/Computer Science education
  • Serving on committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Engaging in community outreach initiatives
  • Collaborating with colleagues in teaching and research projects
  • Committing to the vision, mission and values of the School of Education
