The role

We are seeking two dedicated team players to join our Accounts Payable team here at the University of Bristol. If you enjoy working in Finance and are keen to contribute to the success of one of our key finance functions, we want to hear from you!

Accounts Payable is made up of three separate teams - two Processing teams serving our colleagues within Faculty Finance and Professional Services teams, plus the Payments team, who undertake the processing of BACS and Bank Transfer payments. Due to some recent staff changes, one role will start in one of the Processing Teams, and the other in the Payments Team.

The purpose of these roles is to process invoices, expense claims and any other ad hoc payments in a professional and timely manner, and to deal with any related queries. You will have a keen eye for detail and be passionate about delivering excellent customer service.

The University has a flexible blended working policy, which means you will be expected to work in the office at Augustine’s Courtyard one day each week, depending on your working hours. Currently, the Accounts Payable team work in the office on alternating Mondays and Thursdays, working from home on the other days.

What will you be doing?

  • Working as part of the Processing team you will be allocated a group of suppliers dealing with manual interventions and chasing up approvers to ensure invoices are processed on time.
  • You will be working through invoices, dealing with statements and supplier queries.
  • Checking submitted expense claims, you will also be dealing with queries within the internal mailbox. 
  • Other ad hoc tasks include involvement in implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives and other short-term projects.

You should apply if

  • You will have a strong customer service focused attitude, and be a good communicator, able to organise workloads effectively and work well under pressure.
  • You must be a good team player, but able to work independently on your own specific tasks.
  • You are educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent, or you can demonstrate work experience to this level.
  • Experience of using a purchasing system in a large complex organisation, an awareness of VAT regulations is desirable but not essential.
