The School of Life Sciences
The School of Life Sciences is recruiting colleagues with expertise in the field of Evolutionary Biology. The successful candidate would join, and ideally work across, any of our research groups: Ecology and Environmental Microbiology, Genomics and Computational Biology, Plant Productivity, Protein Structure and Mechanisms of Disease.
We encourage applicants in any aspect of Evolutionary Biology:
All our research groups are highly active and well placed to deliver an excellent performance in the next Research Excellence Framework (REF). Based on a successful track record and research plan, the candidates must make a convincing case for adding value, and being a strategic fit, to the School of Life Sciences. Candidates will be required to conduct internationally excellent research demonstrated through publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals.
Research in the School benefits from a collegial environment, excellent shared lab and computational facilities and notable year-on-year increasing success in securing research funding. Applicants are required to demonstrate a strategic approach to securing funding to support their research, and ideally be able to propose an area of their research that could develop into a REF Impact Case Study in the long-term.
Our guiding principle is “excellence in research, excellence in teaching”. Therefore, we expect the successful appointee to deliver relevant and inspiring teaching on one or more of our degree courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
A full list of duties can be found within the job pack.
Skills and Qualifications Required
To be successful you will have a relevant doctoral level research degree in Evolutionary Biology or equivalent professional experience or practice, along with Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways is essential for this post.
In addition, it is essential that you have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
