We have an opportunity in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences for a Senior Technician to work in our Mechanical Workshop, using their skills in mechanical engineering to support the research and teaching activities of the School.
Based in the Mechanical Engineering Workshop within the Engineering Heartspace, you will lead in the consultation and design, development and construction of complex equipment, working according to specifications received verbally or via technical drawings.
You will manage projects, as directed by the Team Leader, using the full range of workshop equipment working with a range of materials. You will also carry out a number of other activities, including maintaining the workshop’s health and safety documentation. The role may also require occasional off-site working within the UK and overseas.
Applicants must have a qualification or experience equivalent to a HND, ideally supported with a formal engineering apprenticeship. It is important to have proven general mechanical engineering workshop skills, with the ability to operate workshop machinery and work with a range of materials.
