The role
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a background in physical science and a broad range of technical skills. The ideal candidate will have identifiable experience working within a science laboratory, have good communication skills, a strong understanding of laboratory Health and Safety and a willingness to learn and develop themselves, as well as teach others. In this position you will work in a team of technical staff providing support to taught student laboratory classes in Physics, as well as research projects, interacting with students, Academics and other members of the technical team on a daily basis. This will include ensuring suitable and sufficient materials are prepared and available for experimental work, providing technical advice, training and assistance with the application of techniques and use of equipment, and helping academic staff and students to obtain experimental data. You will be responsible for ensuring all health and safety requirements are met and that there is a safe working environment for all laboratory users.
About you
You will have a qualification in a related science or engineering subject, and relevant work experience or learning gained through work experience (including short courses and other formal training). You will have good communication, IT, and organisational skills, and will be happy working independently without supervision. You will have some knowledge and experience of operating general Physics equipment, including maintenance and first-level fault finding, and will have a good understanding of relevant health and safety.
Experience in providing technical support in higher, further, or secondary education is desirable.
