An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Geothermal/Thermal Energy Storage Scientist to join BGS and be involved in a range of grant, external and BGS funded projects which will depend on the specialism of the candidate. Primary responsibility will be to advance the research and innovation being undertaken at the UK Geoenergy Observatories in Glasgow and Cheshire.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Science and Operations Leads and a multi-disciplinary team of BGS scientists to progress the understanding of the geological systems of the two Observatories and the application of the subsurface to shallow geothermal heating, cooling and storage.
They will be required to develop research proposals and lead funding applications, and will also be expected to present their research at a range of conferences, meetings and workshops.
You will have a first degree in a relevant science or engineering degree together with a PhD or MSc and relevant work experience working as a research scientist in industry or academia.
You will have specialist scientific expertise in shallow geothermal or underground thermal storage, evidenced by recent peer- reviewed publications and success in winning research funding. In addition, we are looking for experience of working within large, multidisciplinary teams to deliver clear scientific outputs on time and to budget.
