Do you have experience in digital media including working on blogs, social media or online journals? Do you want the opportunity to assist our Research and Public History team in all areas of digital publishing and scholarship?
About Us
This role operates within the Research & Public History team, who are responsible for the development of research projects, as well as postgraduate teaching and SMG’s Collaborative Doctoral Programme. We also run research events and are developing SMG’s digital offer – for example through membership of the British Library Shared Repository.
We are now recruiting for a Digital Research and Communications Fellow based at the Science Museum in London, on a fixed-term contract for 12 months (with the possibility of a further extension) working part-time, 17.5 hours per week. Hybrid working is available for this role.
About the role
As The Digital Research and Communications Fellow, you will primarily support the Research and Public History team to produce the Science Museum Group Journal. The norms of scholarly Open Access publishing are changing rapidly, and we’re interested in recruiting someone both enthusiastic and able to help us sharpen SMGJ as we prepare for the changes ahead.
You will assist the Research and Public History team across all areas of digital publishing and scholarship. This will stretch from writing copy to attract PhD students to Open Access publishing on our repository via the production of departmental reports, the updating of research websites and, most importantly, supporting the delivery of our Open Access Journal.
About you
Joining us you will have experience of digital media including, for example, blogs and social media, with the ability to manipulate text, images, and new media. You will also have experience of the book or journal editing processes.
Crucially, you will understand online content and project management systems, including basic SEO, analyse analytics and you will be able to identify opportunities for content creation and updates. Skills such as good attention to detail, effective communication skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and manage your time in order to meet set deadlines are also key to this role.

What we offer

We understand that work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we offer the perks listed below, as well as support for things that happen in life such as parental and adoption leave, sickness, and career breaks.
