Our Mission
Coventry University Group is a global education group with a mission of Creating Better Futures. Driven by our passion and belief that through education, equity, and innovation our students, people, and communities are empowered to transform their lives and the world around them. Our people are the key to our success and each role within the group plays a key role in shaping the world around us.
The Role
The Research Centre of Computational Science & Mathematical Modelling applies and develops methodologies in computational science to tackle pressing real world problems. We seek to address challenges of the ongoing AI revolution such as explainability & interpretability, privacy protection, robustness, and AI governance. The centre represents Coventry University in the new Turing University Network, allowing staff access to the wider UK Data Science and AI ecosystem. We value research experience, technical expertise, and programming skills. But just as important, we seek individuals with a commitment to open science, those with a willingness to collaborate and work on trans-disciplinary projects, those who ensure their research is problem-led, and who place a high-value on collegiality and respect.
We seek two candidates for research focussed roles with a teaching contribution in support of an exciting new collaboration between Coventry University and the Communications University of China.
The holders of these roles will be based at our Coventry campus in a research centre but will be required to travel to our campus in Hainan, China to deliver teaching. Teaching activities (including teaching related administration and marking) is capped at 40% of the role. Trips to China will be twice a year, (semester one and two), with each trip around 8 weeks in duration. Teaching duties would most likely be in the areas of data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, although the ability to teach other aspects of computer science is welcome.
How we will support you:
Qualifications Required
A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.
Our Successful Candidate
The successful candidates for these research-focused positions will have exciting ideas for future research projects aligned with the existing areas of work in the centre. They will be expected to secure significant funding to support their research. They will produce research outputs with a focus on quality over quantity, and the creation of impact from, and wide engagement with, their research. They will work to build a research group in their area, providing supervision to Postgraduate Research students and postdoctoral researchers. They will also be dedicated to the provision of high-quality teaching and excited at the opportunity to do so as part of our new partnership in Hainan, China.
The Benefits
As a staff member of Coventry University, you will have a access to a wide range of industry leading rewards and benefits which includes:
Our Culture
As a global Education Group, equality, diversity, and inclusion are embedded within the fabric of our organisation and are a key focus of our core values. We harness the power and potential of the diverse cultures, backgrounds, abilities, and experiences of our students, colleagues, and partners to create opportunities for all.
