The Education Data and Insight Team are based within the Education Administration Office within Education and Student Success. We’re a service team who provide operational reporting, management information and analysis and insight to a variety of stakeholders across the university. We perform a key role within the university, helping to drive forward decision-making and providing the evidence base for action or helping to change perceptions. We work closely with other data analysts in the university.

What will you be doing?

  • Manage a team of data analysts. You’ll provide them with excellent day-to-day management, clarity of direction, support to acquire the skills needed to do the job brilliantly and empower their personal development.
  • Understand how admissions and recruitment at the University of Bristol works. You’ll learn about admissions processes and the data they generate, and how to turn that data into knowledge and insight.
  • Drive forward essential forecasting and reporting projects including the work to transform our forecasting models so that they’re fit for the future and can accommodate the future challenges in the higher education sector.
  • Provide great looking, easy to use and accessible reporting products that everyone in the university can tap into. You and the team will transform raw data into impactful reports which help the division and the wider university make decisions. You’ll provide the information which answers questions: from the day-to-day such as “how many new students do we have this year?” to the strategic: “where are our largest student attainment gaps and how might we tackle them?”
  • Be accountable for the quality and accuracy of the work your team produce. You’ll make sure the team has the policies and procedures in place to maintain its excellent reputation as a trusted and credible source of information. You’ll also manage the maintenance of the team’s library of technical and user documentation, regularly reviewing it to make sure it’s up to date.

You should apply if

  • You’ve got proven experience of using SQL to construct complex queries to extract data from relational databases.
  • You’ve proven experience of data modelling and/or forecasting.
  • You’re comfortable presenting complex, technical information to non-technical audiences who want a quick, straightforward answer.
  • You’re highly organised, able to ruthlessly prioritise and can manage a number of different tasks at the same time.
  • You work well under pressure.

Desirable:

  • You’ve worked in undergraduate or postgraduate admissions in a UK university previously
  • You have a good understanding of the issues facing UK higher education.
