The University of Sussex has a clear ambition to be one of the most sustainable universities in the world. We have made a good start, featuring in the top 50 in the world in both the Times Higher Education Impact rankings and the QS Sustainability rankings, but there is more to do. We are investing in our Sustainability team with a number of new roles, so that we can increase our capacity and capability, and deliver on our commitment to Environmental Sustainability.

The Senior Energy Manager will manage the University’s utilities consumption, to improve environmental performance, reduce carbon emissions and control the cost of operating campus. The postholder will be the University’s subject matter expert in energy management, bringing forward ideas that will make a major contribution to the University’s net zero transition plan, and to our overall environmental sustainability goals.

The postholder will work closely with colleagues in Capital Projects and Sussex Estates and Facilities (the University’s outsourced facilities management provider) to turn ideas into reality, in the form of deliverable programmes of work.

We are making a difference in a number of ways, from capital projects to catering, facilities management to housing, space and sustainability. We are a visible daily presence on campus through our hard-working, front-facing teams, but we also work behind the scenes to ensure an on-site positive experience for all.
