This full-time, permanent post is available from 1st October 2024 in the University of Exeter Medical School, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
This opportunity is open to both academic and clinical academic candidates who have exceptional education leadership capability and experience. For clinical academics, upon appointment, clinical and academic sessions would be agreed between the University, relevant Trust and applicant.
The role
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional academic leader with significant experience in medical education as the Associate Dean of Medical Education (ADME) in the University of Exeter Medical School.
The Associate Dean for Medical Education will have overall and direct responsibility for the delivery of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) programme at the University of Exeter Medical School. Working closely with the Dean of the Medical School, Heads of Department and Faculty Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education, the Associate Dean will be responsible for education quality for existing and future medical students, managing and delivering future growth in student numbers, matrix and line management of the large BMBS programme team, and oversight of our BMBS national and international partnership activity.
This is an exciting time for the University of Exeter Medical School as we build our plans to expand our clinical education delivery portfolio both nationally and internationally. As the Associate Dean for Medical Education, the role holder will be at the heart of that decision making process, providing key strategic input and leadership. The new Associate Dean will also benefit from a vibrant scholarly community, for example the Health Professions Education & Wellbeing research group supports a large cohort of doctoral students and Academic Clinical Fellows in medical education and has well-established national and international research networks.
Our BMBS programme is co-delivered between our Devon and Cornwall campuses, offering the role holder a unique opportunity to lead a multi-site programme with exceptional facilities in both Exeter and Truro. Whilst the role holder will be substantively based on our St Luke’s, Exeter campus they will regularly travel to our Truro campus to interact with and provide leadership for our academic and professional services teams in both locations.
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification (available on the university's website, accessed by the 'Apply' button) for full details of this role.
