About the Role
The food offered at Queen Mary Students’ Union is varied, wide-ranging, and integral to the student and staff experience at Queen Mary University of London. Drapers Bar & Kitchen is our largest campus space, with this role giving you the opportunity to lead the operations of our food offer, training student staff along the way.
This is an opportunity to leave the 60-hour weeks of the hospitality industry behind you whilst being able to put your stance on menu development and training. A great role for a sous chef looking for their next step, or a current kitchen manager who would like to improve their work-life balance. This role is primarily based in Mile End, serving everything from standard pub food to canape receptions and hot fork buffets.
The primary role of the Drapers Bar & Kitchen chef is to ensure the effective ordering, preparation, and cooking of the agreed venue menu and hospitality catering events to the highest possible standards. Your team will consist of student staff and you will be expected to lead them, ensuring the highest safety standards.
About You
You should be a ‘hands-on’, organised, approachable leader committed to the organization's values, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core, by training them as your kitchen staff to assist in the kitchen management. This role’s hours would be predominantly Monday – Friday daytime, but an expectation of evening and weekend work is occasionally required to operate around the needs of the business and to appreciate the training needs of our student staff team.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people. Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise service and student staff development amongst other projects taking place.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
