An opportunity has arisen to join GCU as a Fashion Studio Lead. Based in the Glasgow School for Business and Society, the post is in the Department of Fashion, Marketing, Tourism and Events which runs fashion design, branding and marketing programmes at UG and PG level with a focus on experiential teaching and learning with business and community engagement. The main purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate a small technical team in the operation and delivery of fashion support services with responsibility for garment manufacture, pattern cutting, studio operations and digital technologies where required.
Working closely with the fashion academic team and line managed by the Head of Department you will provide a professional level of technical instruction, demonstration and curriculum support relating to specialist fashion facilities, equipment and processes and deliver a flexible and student orientated service that supports their learning within this specialism.
You will oversee the operation of the technical facilities and activities, ensuring effective and efficient running of the fashion studios and contributing to their ongoing development and enhancement. This will include the management and maintenance of specialist equipment with adherence to health and safety procedures as well as inventory, sourcing and purchasing within budget.
Educated to Honours Degree level in a Fashion Technology or related subject and with significant, relevant industry experience you will have demonstrable expertise and excellent technical skills in industrial methods of pattern cutting, garment production, use of equipment and fabric/materials knowledge. You must have a competent knowledge and understanding of fashion equipment and processes, storage and the maintenance of specialist resources. You will be expected to support and facilitate the exhibition of work for showcase events and other promotional initiatives therefore as well as having essential general computing skills, a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud CAD technologies would also be desirable.
You must have a team and solutions-focussed approach, excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to adapt your style to suit different situations.
With a high degree of responsibility and ability to exercise initiative, you will develop the fashion support team to work effectively in collaboration with students, staff and other stakeholders in order to provide an excellent service.
