About the Role
For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Fabrizio Alberti (Associate Professor) at f.alberti@warwick.ac.uk.
An 1.0 FTE (36.5 hours per week) Maternity cover fixed-term post for a Senior Research Technician position is available to work in the field of molecular microbiology for 7 months, starting from 01/01/2025 until 31/07/2025, but alternative start dates may be considered.
This post is part of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship award and is based in the laboratory of Dr Fabrizio Alberti. Work in the Alberti lab aims to understand and engineer microbial natural product biosynthesis and to develop new tools for the genetic engineering of fungi.
As part of this project, you will work closely with the Principal Investigator and a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to assist in the development and testing of new tools for the engineering of filamentous fungi aimed to study natural product biosynthesis and to improve yields of high-value chemicals production. You will be responsible for the preparation of specialist growth media and solutions, the maintenance of microbial strains, basic cloning and nucleic acid purifications, RNAseq, transformation and genotyping of strains. You will also oversee the purchase of consumables and equipment. You will be responsible for the induction and training of all new team members as well as for the day-to-day supervision of students.
You will work closely with the Principal Investigator and internal/external collaborators, and you will be expected to present and disseminate the project findings at weekly group meetings and with the project partners. You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team, and to assist in the drafting of manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
About you
You should hold an Honour’s degree in microbiology or a related subject. You should have experience in molecular biology techniques, including gene cloning, purification of nucleic acids and strain genotyping. Previous experience in natural product chemistry would be desirable. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills that are necessary for the dissemination of the outcomes of the project.
For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.
